About Dr. Mavrides
Dr. Gregory Mavrides is an American psychoanalytically-oriented mental health professional born, raised and educated in New York.
He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, a master's and a doctoral degree in clinical social work, both from Columbia University, with six years of post-graduate training at the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute.
Dr. Mavrides' clinical experience spans 29 years of conducting psychotherapy with adults, children, families, and groups for a wide range of clinical syndromes and personality disorders including severe adjustment reactions, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, drinking problems, drug abuse, and, especially, borderline and narcissistic personality disorders.
His academic experience includes teaching positions at Columbia University, the University of South Carolina, Barry University in North Miami and, currently, Jinan University's International School, Department of Clinical Medicine in Guangzhou where he is teaching courses in medical psychology, mental health, statistics, and medical ethics.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Prof. Mavrides volunteers as a therapist at the student counseling center and maintains a few hours each week treating private patients as well. He is the author of several professional articles, symposia presentations, and APA PsycCRITIQUES book reviews, in addition to serving as the principal author of the comprehensive e-book Foreign Teachers’ Guide to Living and Teaching English in China.
In addition to two teaching awards earned both in the states and in China, Dr. Mavrides is a biographee in the international reference books Marquis Who’s Who in The World, in Science and Engineering and in Medicine and Healthcare.
