ALHOSN University, UAE January 29, 2012 marked the beginning of the spring semester and my second year at ALHOSN University. In October of 2011, the Vice Chancellor appointed me to the position of chairman of the Department of Social Sciences and director of Student Counseling and Career Services.

This website has been created as a direct way for me to communicate with my students. It will contain the latest information my students need to know about the various classes I am teaching as well as what is required from each course. My current semester schedule will always be available online at Current Work Schedule. Students are encouraged to meet with me for any questions or issues they may have.

Attendance Policy Why I Take Attendance

Although it is generally true that American undergraduates are not required to attend class, it is also true that the academic culture in the United States is very different than it is here. Learn why I strictly enforce the University's attendance policy.

Earn An A How to Earn An "A" in My Class

Professors do not "give" grades to their students: Grades can only be assigned based on student performance. There is nothing magical or mysterious about earning an "A" in my class. Learn how you can do it.

Presentation Dates

Presentation dates have been assigned in descending numerical order based on student ID, i.e., lowerclassmen will present before upperclassmen. Please note that these dates cannot be changed. If you are not prepared to present on the date you have been assigned, you will receive a grade of zero (0) for the presentation unless you provide a signed excuse from the Provost's office.

You may switch dates with a classmate. Both classmates must appear in person and request the exchange of dates. Dates may be switched by mutual agreement only once. On days in which two students are scheduled to present, the student with the numerically higher-valued student ID will present first, e.g., 201010300 will present before student 201010200 unless both students have previously agreed to reverse the presentation order.

You are strongly advised to e-mail yourself a copy of your presentation and to bring at least two separate copies of it on the day that you are scheduled to present. You are responsible for ensuring that you do not experience any technical difficulties that are within your control, e.g., USB disk failure, incompatible formatting, conflicting versions of PowerPoint, etc. If you fail to present on your assigned day due to technical difficulties that could have been prevented, you will receive an automatic grade of zero (0).

Important Reminder

Finally, as one final cautionary warning, you will receive an automatic grade of 50 (minimal pass) if the following three requirements are not met:

  1. Presentation must begin with an explanation of why or how your topic is important to you personally or professionally.
  2. Presentation must be a minimum of 15 minutes in duration (you must rehearse your presentation to ensure that you have at least 15 minutes worth of substantive material to present).
  3. Presentation must contain at least two embedded citations, APA Manual of Style.
